This is the place to talk about things that are not GPS related.

This thread will be closed on Monday and a new one will be opened.

New Jersey

Had dentist appointments in NJ. Garmin got me around some of the tolls. I would have been lost otherwise. I do not know how Jersians can navigate around the round-abouts without a gps.

Happy Tuesday

Cool weather is here. Nice and pleasant.

How did it go?

Updating version 25H2 to 26H2

@LMChu -- Don't want to hi-jack the thread but sure would like to know how upgrade goes. We have couple of HP OmniBook 5's that are saying they're ready for update.

Maybe just a short note ¯|_(ツ)_/¯

More Garmin misinformation...

A GPS works where a cellphone doesn’t

You can certainly be forgiven for having this misconception, many people do. And, no wonder, Garmin would like to perpetuate this myth. But it simply isn't true. There are at least two major GPS apps from well-known companies that work just fine with no cell service. You can install the full map on your phone, if you want (or just use the online version, which doesn't work without cell service). But if you install the maps, then your phone is basically the same as a Garmin GPS. For example:

HereWeGo App (from HERE, formerly known as NavTeq, they have always been the main supplier of map data for Garmin.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.here.app.m...
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/here-wego-maps-navigation/id95...

TomTom App
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tomtom.spe...
https://apps.apple.com/au/app/tomtom-maps-traffic/id14381065...

I'm sure there are others too, but these are probably the best known. Now, there could be plenty of reasons to use your Garmin device instead of these apps on your phone. I totally get that. Maybe you just like the Garmin interface because it's familiar. Or maybe you just don't want to use your phone as a GPS. Totally valid.

But please don't spread misinformation about how GPS apps on your phone don't work without cell service. Some apps require an internet connection. But others don't. You may not want to use those apps, but they are available.

Sorry - don't want to sound like I'm picking on you! Like I said, this is exactly the myth that Garmin would like you to believe. Use your Garmin devices and be happy. But that is your *choice* and not a limitation of smartphone apps.

getting spam calls for well over a month always the same recording about Medicare Part A and D etc. I learned from work it's called vishing.

I really hope they stop and even though it's vishing, what is the dang point? I need my phone for on call at work so I can't simply silence it. First world problem but getting really annoying.

I don't even have medicare and am not old enough.

Finally...Friday

It's the only day we're allowed to work from home. Rest of the week it's battling Lancaster PA rush hour traffic. It's not that Lancaster has such a large population, it's that the highway infrastructure wasn't built for today's volume of commuters.

I'm Back!

Well, I did it. After my driveluxe 50 got stolen a few years ago, I've been phone only.

I came across a DriveLuxe 51 on Facebook and pulled the trigger! Why? I enjoy it!

At some point I think I'll get a traffic cable though for travelling.

Good day.

First week of October.
