Your Favorite Costco Food Court Items

If it is fresh the Peperoni pizza...

The hotdog is still good and you can't beat the price but quality isn't the same since they changed from Sinai 48 years ago.

being really picky:

Founded September 15, 1983; 39 years ago (as Costco)

from: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Costco

One time not so long ago ...

... I was at Costco and had the urge to go for my usual order, a Polish sausage dog with deli mustard and onions. "Sorry, we discontinued the Polish sausage ... and we discontinued the deli mustard ... and we discontinued the onions".

Sheesh, ok. So then I figured that I'd just order the other item that I'd usually get when I didn't order a Polish sausage, a slice of combo pizza. "Sorry, we discontinued the combo pizza".

Needless to say, I'm not too thrilled with their decision to do away with all my favorite items, but that's the way it goes.

One other thing that I'm not thrilled with is, at least in regards to the Costco where I shop the most, the service at the food court has really gone downhill. It's not the worker's fault, it's the fact that they are understaffed. People waiting in lines 20 to 30 deep or more is not uncommon now, even on weekday afternoons. One person running the register, who also has to fetch the food is often the case. Then there's the soda machines which are constantly having issues with no ice, or soda coming out that's 90% water. Not sure who's running the food court there, but it might be time to replace him or her.

Anyway, as far as what would currently be my favorite item, I suppose it would be the strawberry sundae. Sure, the hot dog's always going to be a good deal and tastes ok, but it doesn't have the flavor that my old friend the Polish sausage dog had.

Being really petty and completely off point aren't we minke?

Still available...

The polish sausage is still available at the Costco's near me. And they all have self ordering at the food courts in my city. Actually the best thing ever, super fast in ordering and payment on one of the 6 self checkouts.

yes,,, petty

Well, the fact that they changed food items 48 years ago is just as off-topic and also (if Wikipedia is correct) wrong. I didn’t realize that pointing out that Costco only existed for 39 of those 48 years was worth a reaction unless I am wrong.

You had a choice. You could have stayed on-topic and not wandered into Costco history. I had a choice and tried to correct the history that you chose to present.

My choice of subject indicated that what I had to say was a petty correction, but it was a correction nevertheless. If you are opposed to corrections then I just don’t know what to say.

You do understand "Sinai 48" is the brand name of their original

hotdog right? Not that it was changed 48 years ago...LOL. At least have a basic understanding on what you're writing about before you make your supposed corrections which was completely off topic. I'm not opposed to being corrected if the person making the assertion is correct.

Back on topic

I either go for the hot dog or the Pepperoni pizza. I did like the Combo, but since it’s gone, I go for the Pepperoni pizza. I also liked the ice cream bar, but that disappeared many years ago.

That is pretty ambiguous. If you’d said “ changed from ‘Sinai 48’ years ago” I might have understood. Now I see the relationship to the formation of Israel.

Mmmmm, Chocolate!!

Ice cream, dipped in chocolate, rolled in nuts, all on a stick.

It's been years, but still my favourite. smile

We get milk there every

We get milk there every other week. My issue is with the containers. They are a royal PITA to get that seal off.

Speaking of membership clubs, just cancelled my samsclub. The stores around here (chicago) are so ghetto. Most of the food items we used to buy are no longer sold. To boot, they've raised the price to $50. Not worth it.

In fact last year, the membership was free, but even free is not worth it. Samsclub, like walmart can go rot.

.

First I look for a table as what I order depends on if I'm eating in or taking it out to my car. Eating in is a Pizza slice or in the car it's a Polish sausage and an order of fries.

You must be ...

... one of the lucky ones whose Costco still carries the Polish dog. Wonder why they decided to pull them from most of their stores, but still keep them at a few.

My Guess

BSideTheCSide wrote:

My guess is that they sell whatever they carry in stock. All the food court items come from their freezers (except for their soft serve ice cream). It could be that at some stores, polish sausage is not a big seller so they don't stock it. They still have it at my store. Picked up 2 for the kids last night.

I think

The hotdog is comical as the founder told the ceo he would kill him if the price were raised. The price does not in fact make sense, it's almost a gift, although not everyone wants the 20 oz soda and it can be a pita to actually get it. I've always noticed people drinking soda and refilling, even with people waiting lol

my answer is hotdog. The pizza is terrible but my son likes it, so they make some money back on us buying by the slice. I wouldn't want a whole going home!

I've Never Eaten in A Costco Food Court

I may be in the minority but I have never eaten anything in the Costco food Court. I've been a member ever since Costco came to metro Atlanta maybe 20-25 years ago. Costco offered a free membership for one year if my memory serves me when they open the first store in the area.

I became a paying Costco member for a few years until my daughter graduated from pharmacy school and took a job with Costco. As a Costco employee family member I've had a free membership now for about twenty or more years. What's not to like about that?

I just never felt the urge to visit the Costco food court. I take a list of items I intend to buy, go through the checkout counter, and promptly leave the premise. Outside of the store I buy Costco gas almost exclusively. All my purchases add up to a good yearly Costco rebate check.

Beef hot dog and soda for $1.50? Outstanding

What?

Costco has a food court?

I thought it only had donuts for my car!

Combo pizza

I miss the combo pizza.

Just can't do the pepperoni anymore! I need the peppers, olives, and onions!

Ditto.

Blah

We haven't had a food court for a couple of years. Covid shut that all down. Its a Kiosk thing like McDonalds now. Menu has shrunk also. They now have put a couple of tables out. Before it was a head ache. Buggies everywhere, no room to get by. 10-15 tables, just pact. Popular for sure. I guess the hotdog is still the best deal, and its still on the menu. Not for me though. I liked the Montreal Smoked Meat sandwiches. They are also long gone.

Even cheaper if you guys in the US ever come to Canada. It would only cost you about $1 with the current exchange rate. Lol

Only in regular Costco’s

BarneyBadass wrote:

They only have them in the regular Costco’s. None in the Costco Business Centre’s that I’ve been to.

polish dog

Sadly, our Costco doesn't have it anymore.

on the topic

of Costco, yesterday I go to use my Costco Visa (Citi), and it's declined.

I open up the citi app and the card shows account closed.

I call up Citi and the IVR says due to returned mail, the account has been suspended. Huh? It said I could update it via the web, or wait for a rep.

What's also not logical is there are 3 accts, shouldn't the other 2 be suspended as well? Seriously with AI, this isn't 1980.

What I was concerned with is I know I've already earned $150-$200 towards the annual rebate check, so if closed, what happens, I lose it? It's all back now.

I know, first world problems. I was thinking exactly that when the drawstring of my sweats disappeared into the sweats after being washed lol

hot dog hot dog hot dog!!!

hot dog hot dog hot dog!!! The price makes it tasty. But it tastes good too actually.

.

My favorite is one hot dog. But everything at the Costco food court seems to have about a month's dose of sodium (in my opinion, not a nutrition analysis), so I limit eating too much there.

Same at Sam's Club

Love to have a hot dog but way too much sodium for me.

Obviously you must be in Canada. We don't have the option for Poutine here where I live. I had a hot dog once and it was good but that was many years ago. My wife gets the frozen yogurt once in a while and says it's her favorite thing there. (Must be since, other than that one time we had dogs, it's the only thing she buys there.)

Poutine would sell well in the States.

I was in Vaudreuil-Dorion on business, and the GM up there asked me what I wanted to get for dinner. I said how about poutine. He said really, are you kidding (he thought I was)?

The poutine at my Costco was a lot better a few months ago before they changed the fries. They used to be coated and super crispy. I think they use the uncoated Cavendish fries they have in stock now.

johnm405, don't sweat the salt, things get preserved by salting them. Some of the foods that are preserved by salting are ham, bacon, duck, fish, eggs, cheese, and vegetables. And while they don't specifically mention humans, I'm sure it's merely an oversight. So eat away.

Costco Hot Dog

Hot dogs are for me a top five, okay maybe ten... (fifteen?!?) favorite foods, with no way to pick one over the other.

My MD and dietician tell me: NO MORE processed meats, none, ZIP, which of course includes hot dogs, bacon, and all deli-sliced meats... [*cough* funsuckers].

Their grounds for this edict: colon cancer and cardiovascular disease are at way-above-national-average rates here in the South, and processed meats are a key risk factor.

I do comply in the sense that I don't go in and order any of them or buy them in the supermarket. Of course if somebody has already served me a plate that happens to include some processed meat, well that's on them, and we can't waste food by throwing it out, so... freebie!

I prefer kosher-certified Vienna Beef or Nathan's hot dogs, given a choice, but even a Costco hot dog, at such a bargain price, is tempting to say the least.

You know you're addicted, as Richard Pryor said, when it talks to you as you walk out from Costco checkout and go by the "food court."

For some reason, my height was 1' too little on my patient record. and I had gained weight.

So in 2018, my doctor said, "YOU ARE OBESE!!!" Talk about a slap in the face. He proceeded to tell me how you're going to lose weight.

Basically the typical no fat, no sugar, no fruits, no carbs, basically said to eat certain veggies and breathe air lol

I dunno I did drop 20 lbs in like 4 mos and I felt great. But then I saw hmmmmm my BMI is through the roof because the height is off by 1'. dang.

Anyhow it's interesting how it seems brands matter. I noticed in Chicago, it's Vienna Beef that's the top dog? It sure did taste good and had the natural casing snap.

There was a point in time we were able to buy Dietz and Watson with the natural casing, but it seems unpopular. I saw on TV a Sabrett's factory in the Bronx and they made 2 kinds of dogs, natural casing for street carts, and skinless for the consumers.

Costco's dog does taste good to me, it's not street cart good, but it's good, even without the $1.50 price tag.

Anyone here remember Gray's Papaya on W 8th St. and Ave. of the Americas? I went there in the 90's. At that time a dog was $0.50, but they got people on the drinks. Lines out the door at 2 AM.

Ah the 90's, my life was ahead of me and it was a great time, all the time. Again I'd rather have no money, a junk car, live in an apartment, but have youth lol

p.s. back then even appliances were still built to last forever
