Garmin Express v7.9.1.0

Critical

As I expected, Garmin hasn't offered any release notes for 7.9.1, or 7.9.0 for that matter.

But 7.9.1 is designated a critical update by Garmin so older versions will have to be updated before using the program.

Thank You

It first updated to v7.8.1.0 before offering an update to v7.9.1.0. Didn't expect that, but all looks good.

Works fine

I have it installed and it works fine for updating a couple of minor updates on my 2495LMT and 1390T.

Same for me

It was the same for me also... updated to v7.8.10 before 7.9.1.0.

Thank you for the heads up

Updated, WIN 10 no problems.
Thank you

Tried 5 more times and it finally offered v.7.9.1.0

clean out installers

If your pressed for hard drive space, don;t forget to clean out the GE installers, each of which takes up about 127 MB. They are to be found at C:ProgramData|Garmin|CoreService|Downloads|Application on a Windows 10 machine. Replace "|" with a backslash.

I keep two, the current operating version and the one prior to that.

I still had version 7.7 something and express offered me 7.8.1.0 (IIRC) so I downloaded that, checked updates again and then was offered the current 7.9.1.0.

Install Failed

Just installed the latest map and tried to update GE. (7.8.1.0) Tried several times to upgrade only to get a message, Install failed. GE could not be installed on this computer. Then while attempting a few more times got a request to install 7.9.1.0, but it failed as well.
Is my Windows 7 computer now too old??

Should work

Uninstall GE and download it from here.

https://www.garmin.com/en-CA/software/express/windows/

System Requirements:

Windows
Windows 7 SP1 or newer, Microsoft .NET 4.7.2 (included)
1024 x 768 display, USB port and 1 GB RAM
High speed Internet access (Not for use with dial-up, mobile or satellite connections)
May require up to 20 GB free disk space

If all else fails, just do the free upgrade to Windows 10.

I know, thanks for the link

I know.. just that I dread reinstalling all my heritage programs to do it right with a clean fresh install.

Ralph, moving from Win 7 to 10 is very painless. As part of my business I have done probably a hundred upgrades electing to KEEP the owner's personal stuff and with only one exception was there a problem. That one exception was a printer that didn’t work and reinstalling the driver took care of the issue. I do many of these upgrades for seniors and veterans at no charge. Without exception they applaud the end result. Their email, tax records, pictures, etc., all are left intact.

I had a problem with Win 10. Did a repair and win 10 did a total install.

When I originally did the upgrade from Win 7, the software successfully modified the drivers for Weather Pro to work with Win 10. My Weather Pro software for my Oregon Scientific weather station was removed by the repair/install and the PC could not recognize the weather station any more. Reinstalling the Weather Station software did not solve the problem. Oregon Scientific took a while to create new drivers - BUT I have NOT been able to make them work, along with hundreds of others.

So, don't do a Fresh Install unless you are positive that working Win 10 drivers are available for software that accesses "devices' such as CD/DVD or USB.

Compatibility mode?

"metricman", have you tried reinstalling the software using compatibility mode?

1. Find the installer file location.

2. Right-click on the setup.exe file and click on ‘properties’.

3. Click on the ‘compatibility’ tab and check the box ‘Run this program in compatibility mode for’ and select operating system from the drop down menu and proceed with the installation.

4. Once this is done, restart the computer and check if the issue persists.

It's finding all the serial numbers to re-licence software that was installed as far back as 2012. If, the software will even install.

Do the upgrade

Ralph6410 wrote:

Running an older version of Windows opens you to security risks.
Seriously, do the upgrade and when you are prompted whether you want to keep your personal files or start fresh, select keep your personal folders. I've taken a Dell D630 (from 2007) through Windows 7 to Windows 10 and when I got done it even worked with a very old Canon scanner, something my current 3-year old Dell, which came with Win 10, can't do.

Starting fresh, as you seem to be aware, means that all apps and settings will be deleted for the Windows 10 upgrade.

As far as serial numbers etc., for whatever reason you might need them, I suggest you run Belarc Advisor. It will nicely extract most if not all of the serial numbers, as well as provide you with a lot more information, usually about 5 or 6 pages. You can find the Belarc Advisor at https://www.belarc.com/products_belarc_advisor.
