2020.30 Map Freezing

Anyone else having a problem of the new map freezing up once in awhile. The only way to get it to work again is by rebooting the GPS. It happens on both a route or just viewing the map. I only have the Speed and Redlight Camera POI's installed and this happens on my 1390T, 2450LM and 2495LMT. Never had a single issue on the last map install.

Not quite the same thing but ....

Not the map specifically, but every now and then my DriveSmart 61 will appear to freeze after tapping a command, it freezes for about 20 seconds then completes the task, no reboot needed.

Not doing anything

I'm not doing anything on all 3 of mine. Just driving along and when I look over, I'll notice the map is frozen and nothing is moving. The GPS doesn't respond to any onscreen touches.

Map issue

Almost 100% certain that there's something wrong with the latest map because it's happening on 3 different devices.

Same problem

I had this problem a couple of years back with my 2797. It went away at the next software update. I will be using my unit this week end for a 2 hour trip so will see what happens.

One computer and one download?

Your three GPS devices all show this but I wonder if all were updated from the same computer and single download of the map. If so, maybe the map download was corrupt. You could try going back to Garmin Express and reinstall the map to a device from a new download. Given that you have the issue on three devices while no one else has reported the problem makes me think the download from Garmin to your computer could be the problem.

The other thing to consider would be a hard reset of your devices.

I'd try these on a single GPS of yours and if that fixes the issue, you could carryover the fix to the other two devices.

Good luck.

Used GE

I used Garmin Express on all the units. Not sure how it works but it seemed like it downloaded a new map for each device. I have tried rebooting and resetting them and did reload the map on the 1390T. It worked for a few trips on View Map but yesterday afternoon it randomly froze up again. I think every time it was near a speed/redlight camera location. Heard the warning and a bit later noticed it froze. I’m kind of wondering if multiple speed/redlight entries at approx the same location is causing the issue. I did add I a whole bunch of missing speed/redlight locations manually to the files. I didn’t compare the locations to the files I downloaded here to see if they were added after though. I printed out the locations in my city this morning and will compare it to the ones I entered to see if there are any duplicates.

Since you suspect it may by caused by one of the two speed/redlight POI files why not copy the files to your computer, then delete the files from the POI folder on one of the GPS devices.

Then take the GPS for a ride to see if it acts up again.
I would suspect if one of the files was corrupt it would show up close to home. Were you able to see when the GPS first freezing up?

I've Also Seen This Issue

I had a similar freezing issue with a refurbished Driveluxe 51 I just bought. The map occasionally freezes until you press the back arrow. No reboot required.

I was about to return the refurb unit until the same thing happened with my 3597. The map update to 2020.3 on one unit was done via WiFi and the other with GE so the problem isn't computer related. My other 3597 is still running 2020.2 and has not had this problem.

Thanks for posting this. It saved me the trouble of returning an otherwise fully functioning device. I'm going to wait before updating my other devices to see how this issue is resolved.

I'm troubleshooting another issue that might be a 2020.3 map

I am having an issue with my poi files sporadically giving alerts on file locations that I did not load to my SD card. The 2020.2 map and my files were loaded under Win 7 and gave no issues. They worked fine. I updated the map to 2020.3 and my same poi files using Win 10. I am getting sporadic alerts from McDonalds, Burger King, Wendys??, Webster Ford, Webster, Barnes and Noples, Starbucks, Library, Staples, etc. I did not load these files! I would be stupid to even load them or set an alert esp on McDonalds or Burger King. Not all locations are alerting. I cleared all gpi files off the card, reformated the card, and reloaded them under win 7. I have the same issue with sporadic alerts. I have a very hard time believing it is a win 7/ win 10 issue OR all my files from well known members are littered with these false locations. I can't imagine how a map update would effect the poi files either.

My next test is to only load a few files at a time to see if I can find a specific file. That will be a very daunting task.

Other than the poi files the 2020.3 map is working with no issues.

Nuvi 2460LMT.

Yes

Traveled last weekend with my 3590LMT. Had to restart the GPS twice and it restarted on its own twice. Total distance of roughly 1400 miles.

So far, on 2x 2689LMT’s

So far, on 2x 2689LMT’s and a Nuvi 660, I would say “No”
And I have REDLIGHT and many other POI’s loaded on each

A 2689LMT in both our cars that we love... and a Nuvi 660 with Lifetime Maps that we have had literally forever.... And a 2011 Ford Escape with Nav System that is totally ignored!

Can’t comment on the 350 or 3590, but...

...the 3597 is working with no issues. I’ve had it out several times and have noticed no issues like the ones mentioned above. I have the red light and speed camera file along with numerous other files loaded on the GPS. None of them seem to be causing any problems.

I would re-import the map.

I would re-import the map. Something got corrupted.

No issues

I used everyday and have not seen any issues at all.

Corrupt Error

When I was downloading and installing 2020.3 on my Nuvi 1390, Garmin Express showed a corrupt error. The new map appeared to be working, but no map was listed under map details on the 1390. I reformatted the micro SD card, and repeated the download and install process. I had never seen this error before during an update. So far the Garmin is functioning normally with the update.

4 hour trip

Did a 4 hour road trip over the weekend and had no problems with my 2797.
