Here's a suggestion, I think it would it be a good idea if POI Factory posted the Garmin large JCV files on the website just like the POI's files and Redlight camera files on a blue tab. A lot of us with older Garmin units still need this file and it would make it easy to find. What do you guys think?
I agree
I have an eight-year-old Nuvi 1450 and won't update to a new map until the large JCV becomes available. I'm all for your suggestion.

That's the mistake that I made this time. I should have waited like you. For now, I'm stuck with the small jcv on my 1390T.
I would...
...welcome the establishment of a distribution system for the large JCV file.
It greatly improve my GPS experience!

JCV file distribution
I suspect there are some issues that JM would need to address to do this. If I recall, the permission to share the JCV file is based on an email support request to Garmin by one user. While this may be sufficient for an individual to take the risk by uploading the proprietary Garmin file to a file sharing site, it seems to me that a commercial web site like POI Factory would need something more substantial than this from Garmin.
The other issue is bandwidth. Why should POI Factory pay for the bandwidth that would be required for hundreds or thousands of users to download a 800 MB file? This clearly should be Garmin's responsibility.

Agreed
The bandwidth required would be prohibitive, as every user on the planet would be here to download it.

strange
ive got a 1450 lm and the update comes with the small .jvc file ive deleted it and installed the large one with out any problems did they change something I have never had a problem just over righting the small file !
Mailing list?
Maybe the POI Factory could maintain a mailing list of members who would like to receive the large JCV file.
A volunteer with that file could do a group emailing based on the list. Followed by a monthly emailing for stragglers.
I get Linux distributions through p2p bit torrents, but there may not be enough demand for the JCV to support that method.

Thanks!

Thanks for the thoughtful response, Alandb! You're pretty much on the mark on where we're at with this.

The emailing list...
The emailing list could also announce to those members a bit torrent window of availability (12-24 hours?)

Has Garmin Not Yet Released The Large JCV File?
If I'm reading this thread correctly it suggests that perhaps Garmin has not yet released the large JCV file, D3060240A.jcv, that goes with the 2018.20 map update. Has anyone on the forum downloaded the D3060240A.jcv file during their map update process?
If Garmin has not yet released the large JCV file, it is no wonder the large JCV file cannot be found anywhere but I don't ever remember Garmin not releasing the large JCV file at the same time as the map update.

Where did you get the large file from? Are you using D3060240A?
It exists.
Users with nuvi 7x5 and zumo 6xx got it with the map update.

All of my prior downloads of the large JCV file were done under Win 7 which uses IE 11. As anyone with that combination knows, IE would fail trying to d/l such a large file so that Chrome had to be used. Then after Chrome had successfully d/l-ed the file it had to be unzipped before you were in business.
Under Win 10 with Edge, I was able to successfully d/l the entire file, in unzipped format, in probably one minute. It's size is 845,165 KB. Definitely a major improvement.
What I don't know is whether it is Win 10 or the differnet web site, or both, that made the difference.

For what it's worth, I downloaded the file under Win 10 and Chrome and came up with the exact same size: 845,165 KB. Not quite sure what to make of it all.

Permission to Google Drive for JCV download
HiJuggernaut, could you grant me permission to access the download file on your google drive? I too have an older nuvi that supports the large JCV but does not install with the map update. You should have a request in your google account similar to rangerxus. Thanks much.

Great to see that you locked up the access to the file for every Tom, Dick & Harry that's not a member of POI Factory. Hopefully everyone on here that's been granted access doesn't give out or post the password. Thanks again Juggernaut, we really appreciate it that you posted this for file for us that need it.
Large JCV file download link
jackrabbit000:
I understand your point but not all of us POI members are Tom, Dick & Harry. We just weren't fortunate to see the link early in the day yesterday to download the file. I usually download the large JCV file via Strephon_Alkhalikoi's download links but he is missing in action so far.
Hopefully Juggernaut will show some mercy and kindness and authorize me to access the linked file for my older Nuvi.
Thanks

RangerXus, sorry for the misunderstanding, I should have made it more clear, but I was referring to everyone that is not a member of POI Factory. Not the guys on this forum. I edited the post already.
No problem
jackrabbit000:
No apology necessary.
Waiting to see if Juggernaut grants me access. I am assuming it is a permissions issue and not a problem with my Google account. If the file link is still public then I will have figure out what is wrong with my google account or my browser.
Have a great day.
Alternative JCV Download Location
For those of you like me who could not download the large JCV for 2018.20 map update using the Google Drive link in this forum article, I have found another location where you can download it. A member of the forum GRSURL has posted the file in 4 zip files. I will not post the links to the zip files but you can use the following link to get to the forum article. You will have to join GPSURL to see the actual zip file download links.
I have combined the four zip files and the resulting file is the correct size. I have not yet tested it as I have not yet downloaded the new map itself.
The forum article is "Garmin City Navigator North America NT 2018.20" and the link is

Hope this helps everyone. Thanks for the POI-Factory posters as well.

To me, the offered files make it look like a site of the sort we don't discuss here at The Factory.
To clarify
I've disabled my Google Drive link, as that link was shared elsewhere without my permission. Not going to happen! I've even had Chinese accounts from qq.com requesting access.
I won't have my account terminated because of a silly file.
Sorry folks, I tried to help out the good members here, but it wasn't to be.

I was lucky to be an early bird who got the worm.
I hope the community can come up with a solution to a need that is clearly world-wide.
If only Garmin would "do the right thing".
I think this helps convince many to migrate toward the smartphone philosophy.

I did get your file but i'm wondering how many will join that other place just for the large jcv file now. Its nice to have but not worth jumping through Hoops for it.

No good deed...
Hmmm... seems I am suspect.
I have no agenda, not trying to subvert anyone, nor trying to convert anyone to another site. I have been a member for 4 years and have greatly enjoyed POI-Factory for it's information and help.
As Juggernaut confirmed he did disable the google drive link... and I do resent the implications that I was lying about not being able to access his files.
I don't know much about the site GPSURL other than that post does contain four zip file downloads posted by member TLIX on zippyshare download site. I downloaded the files and the resulting unzip file appears legitimate. The site does contain a lot of GPS related information.
I agree that some of the other posts on that thread refer to questionable file posting, but the 4 zip files making up the large JCV were fine for me.
If I could edit my original post I would remove the link since it has raised suspicions but the edit button no longer is available.
I was just trying to help other POI-Factory members desperate to get the large JCV. Common practice is to be cautious and careful when downloading files from any site. Use a sandbox is best practice if you have concerns.
I'm done with all this. RangerXus

Smartphone GPS
Maybe Strephon has gone to the smartphone GPS and away from the dedicated Garmin GPS.
Best approach ...
It won't get you the file, but call Garmin and complain. It is Garmin's responsibility to furnish the file to legitimate customers, not POI Factory and not well intentioned members who are trying to help other members. I am not surprised that uploading to a public file sharing site causes problems. And in the past we have discussed the issues associated with going to nefarious sites that illegally publish Garmin maps and other content. Garmin should not make their loyal customers go through this. Call and complain. Ask to speak to a supervisor. Call on every map update even if you don't get results. Garmin needs to know that you are not happy.

I have Requested Many times
I have post several message about this topic if it was possible to make the JCV avaiables here so users does not need to hunting down from other website.I was told that was impossible they are concerning about waisting too much Bandwidth.
How much?
How much bandwidth would it actually take?
The demand is limited to a few aging devices among a huge number of GPS units.
We have permission from Garmin.
It could be a good PR for the POI site.
Why not try it while working on a better solution?
