Nuvi Close To Vent

Any issues with the unit being too close to the a/c-heater vents causing it to react to higher temperatures.

I have had my old 2610 and

I have had my old 2610 and my current nuvi 760 right in front of my vent with no problems at all.

whistling

It whistles when the AC is on high grin

vent mount

I keep my nuvi in the window and i live in SoCali. and it gets blazing hot here and no issues .. i would think that if u but the nuvi near the AC vent and the AC on it would only cool off the unit cant be any worries on that one grin

No problems in two years

I have been using a Pro-Clip vent mount for my nüvi for the past two years without a problem. When the a/c is on it is probably better for the unit as it keeps it cooler than if it was on the dash. In the winter most of the heat comes from the floor vent. GPS units have a pretty broad operating temperature range so you can mount on a vent without worries.

No problems here

I have had no problems with my 760 being near the AC vent.

Vent mount quality

Just wondered if anyone had an opinion as to whether any brand of mount was of better quality or are they all pretty much the same.

Garmin spec is 140+ degrees

Unless you have one heck of a heater, you probably won't be violating Garmin's operational specs of avoiding operation at 140+ degrees.

Mini with Kuda mount

With the Kuda mount, my Nuvi is mounted directly above a vent.

I deliberately have that vent aimed high, so I'm not blowing air over my right hand on the steering wheel. When I'm running the AC, the Nuvi gets some free cooling.

When I park the car, I either put a cap over the Nuvi, or put it in the Mini's secret compartment. A couple of weeks ago, when I did a lunchtime run to Costco, I put the cap over it while I was shopping. When I got back into the car, which had been in full sun, I was surprised at how warm it was inside (should have put up the sunshade). But when I pulled off the cap covering the Nuvi, it was still cool to the touch!

Cheers--

I use a vent mount

I have been using a vent mount for my Nuvi for the past two months.
A little getting used to the new location, a little out of the line of sight, but it is harder to be seen by someone looking for something obvious to steal.
And since I love my AC, the Nuvi should have no problem with overheating.

Vent mount

You can adjust the vent to let less air reaching the gps when mounted on a vent.

Gps! ask where to go and get there! Best of all, what we need is to have accurate pois to reach all destinations

No Problems

I'm near Chicago, so we get both extremes. My Nuvi 760 seems a bit hot in the winter sometimes, but it hasn't had a bad reaction yet. In the summer when I have the AC on, it's nice and cool. Still no problems.

vent

I almost did this myself (mount it in front of a vent)- but it gets super hot here in TX (inside temp is probably 160 or higher when the car sits in the sun). I didn't think it was a good idea to have it immediately chilled when I drive the car, and then have it heat up again as soon as I stopped. So, I just mounted mine on the windshield, in front of my inspection sticker area...
